Our Intro to Top-Rope class teaches you one of the most essential climbing skills: belaying. Belaying is the process of managing a rope to protect your climbing partner in case of a fall, and once you learn, you’ll gain access to all of our top rope stations, expanding your climbing experience beyond auto belays, bouldering, and training boards.

This hands-on climbing safety course is perfect for first-timers or anyone needing a refresher. It's also a great option for families—once one person learns to belay, you can take turns climbing and supporting each other. Minimum age to belay is 13

What You'll Learn:

  • Equipment breakdown

  • Gym rules and etiquette

  • How to tie in as the climber

  • How to properly use belay equipment

  • Safety checks

  • Climbing voice commands and communications

  • How to belay and arrest a fall safely

  • Lowering a climber

By the end of the class, you'll have the skills to belay and climb on top rope—but you will not be certified that day. Certification requires a separate skills check, which can be completed on your next visit. This delay ensures you've had time to absorb the information and demonstrate it independently

What’s Included:

  • 1.5 to 2-hour belay instruction with a certified instructor

  • Full rental gear package

  • Day pass to climb after the class (for non-members)

Learn to belay. Climb more. Stay safe.
